Up High

Wanna "rough it" but have some comfort? The Geauga Park District has the perfect solution-- time in a "tree house" at Big Creek Park! It's basic, but you'll be sheltered from the elements. Plus, there's a built-in bunk bed that can fit 4 people, a picnic-style table, and a deck overlooking the woods. It's camping and a tree house all in one.  It's $25 a night for Geauga County residents, $50 a night for non-residents. A $25 security deposit is required, or no key for you. Call 440-286-9516 for the hookup.

Under the Dome

Written by
Ah, COVID. You messed with life this year. But we've adapted. With restaurants not able to serve at full capacity, and with temperatures getting cooler, what to do?  Get your igloo on! Cool... but not cold. Georgetown and Vosh in Lakewood already had the igloo thing pre-COVID, but other local hangs are turning to this solution to keep people safe while dining. Rustic Grill at Stonewater in Highland Heights just added a few heated and lighted igloos that can accomodate a party of 6-8. The domes are sanitized between each party, so no worries.  This actually sounds like a fun night…

Boo-rific

Halloween has descended on jenY-- at least a little bit.    Just a few touches of the season so many love as much as Christmas. Next year-- I wanna go "full haunted house" in the studio...  P.S. I didn't forget the Halloween candy, because it's an essential food group and part of the festivities. LOL

Go Pink!

Written by
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sadly, we all probably know someone who's been faced with breast cancer. Or you may have fought that battle. My grandmother died from it. My cousin had a double mastectomy and survived. Early detection is crucial.  Make sure you read about our Bosom Buddies initiative on the slider on our home page. Our goal is to raise money to provide those who cannot afford mammograms to get one.  Another way to support research and education efforts: Panera Bread's Pink Ribbon bagel is back. Get one (or two), and a portion of proceeds will go…

Spidey

Written by
I'm not a fan of spiders. Nor am I a fan of their webs-- especially when you can't see them and you walk into one and then you feel stuck for life. I am fascinated by the artistry of how a spider makes its web. I once watched an orb weaver weave it out. It was cool. But... Imagine seeing this on a stroll in the woods: A Missouri Department of Conservation employee saw this gem while making his rounds and shared his discovery to social media. Could you imagine falling into this, and then the giant spider feasts on…

Wise Mama

Written by
She's an internet sensation, thanks to her son. When Pranav Sapra started seeing inspirational posts on IG from people this past Spring, he decided he wanted to share his mom's words of wisdom with the masses. And now mom Poonam has a nice IG following with her motherwithsign account. It started with basic messages moms usually say to kids like: "eat your veggies", but then the thoughts became more broad and diverse.             View this post on Instagram                   My favourites: Grey's Anatomy, Dr House, Bosch, The…

What Did You Say?

Written by
Never more in my life have I wanted a pet parrot. Well, more specifically-- these particular parrots: The zoo in Brittain had to remove these sweet parrots because they kept cussing at visitors. LOL The birds had actually taught each other how to swear! The birds were rescued from various owners and housed together. The zoo has removed the birds from public display until they can be taught better manners. So giving someone the bird is really giving someone a cussing parrot in this case...  P.S. If they can't be rehabbed, I'll take 'em. Who could angry when a bird…

Good Boy

It's been almost four years since my beloved Albert The Wonder Dog departed for the Rainbow Bridge. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Fur babies do that to us. They touch our hearts and become so much a part of our lives. Seriously, they encompass the notion of unconditional love. So, when I saw what Sallie Hammett did for her doggo, Charlie, my heart melted. Charlie battled cancer for 5-months, but sadly lost. Sallie wrote the most amazing obit for her fur baby, which ran in the local newspaper and was shared on Twitter a…

Get Elfed

Written by
All right, Elf lovers. As in the movie. Limited-edition Elf cereal is in stores now.  Get out! So what is Elf cereal? Sweetened corn puffs with holiday tree marshmallows. Which falls in line with Buddy's thinking: “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.”  Enjoy!

Another Year

I love when special occasions fall on the weekend-- you can make the celebration last the entire weekend. And that's what my husband and I did. We celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary Sunday, but really took time to enjoy the whole weekend together and at a slower pace than usual. If 2020 has taught us anything, it's to take pause and appreciate every little thing. Did you happen to catch that story that links relationship happiness to the song you danced to first at your wedding? Supposedly, if you danced to Elton John's "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", all…
