Chipmunks. So cute. Not!  I've got the squirrel love, but not the chipmunk love. While some say squirrels and chipmunks are both pests, chipmunks are destructive (Thanks for eating our weed shield! Thanks for tearing a hole in the Japanese beetle bag!) I shared previously that my husband built a little deck for the squirrels to lounge and eat peanuts on. He even built a dish to hold the nuts for the squirrels, and we have a plastic dish of water for them.  So, some scrub chipmunk wanted some of the squirrel peanut action and decided to help himself. Not…

The 4th of July weekend is *this* close! It's gonna be sunny, hot, and filled with yummy foods. I'm so excited, because for the first time in what seems like forever-- I'll get to spend the day with my parents and my in-laws. It's been a challenging few months, no? I enjoy cooking and feeding my peeps. One of the sides I'm making for our get-together is Seven Layer Salad. And it's so simple to make: 7 LAYER SALAD: Ingredients: 2 bags of salad (I use American blend) Carrots, chopped into bite-size pieces or shredded Red onion, chopped Raisins (as…

Cheesy Dreams

To me, mac n cheese should be its own food group. Fancy mac n cheese. Kraft mac n cheese. Kathy Vogel's Awesome Homemade Mac n Cheese-- it's all good. So when Stouffer's teased us with the idea of a Mac on Tap mac n cheese home dispenser?  Mind. Blown. Yoga pants EXPLODING! This needs to happen. A company spokesperson said the machine would have an internal heating system to keep the already-cooked mac n cheese warm enough to serve and eat. If you want to see what this beautiful creation looks like, click on the link: www.myrecipes.com/news/stouffers-mac-and-cheese-tap Thanks for doing The…

I'm all for conserving... and stuff. But there is one thing that annoys me about the suite we work in-- the motion sensor lights. I understand the value and concept. I loathe having to get up and walk to where the sensor is to then trigger the lights to come back on after they decide to sleep.  It's fine during the day. When there's sunlight. And there are other people here with their office doors open (but thanks to COVID, no co-workers)-- offices that have windows to allow natural light to come in. But it's completely aggravating when it's pre-morning…

Maybe this year I'll finally get my act together to check out the Asian Lantern Festival at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. It's such a cool sight, and a great way to "take a vacay" without going too far.  There will be more than 70 never-seen-before lantern displays, new acrobatic performances, and-- yumtastic Asian cuisine. Win! This is a limited time, after-hours event running July 8th through August 23rd between 6:30 and 10:30 pm. Bonus: admission to Dinosaurs Around the World: The Great Outdoors is included with the Asian Lantern Festival.  Make your reservations now, because a sellout could happen if you…

So Vocal

I'm a dog lover. Dogs bring so much joy into our lives. Their unconditional love, companionship, and unique personalities make them so precious! Growing up, my family had a German Shepherd/Husky mix named Eva-- which is why I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Husky. I wish Eva would have been as vocal as that breed is known for-- because Husky dogs talk. A Lot. So comical... Like this one. Who apparently is pleading his case... and is not guilty of any vandalism. It was the other dog that doesn't exist... LOL Enjoy!

I try to honor my inner child. We all have one, and it's important that we nurture that child-- because we adults need a break from all the adult stuff we have to do on the daily. Mom Boss Michaela Madison (of www.newsymom.com) hangs with us Wednesday mornings for chit chat and some tricks she's learned since becoming a momma. We've been friends for a decade, and she's just so fun and sassy-- which is why we get along so well. She surprised me the other day with this  awesome pair of unicorn slippers. UNICORN SLIPPERS!!!!! I squealed like a…

Things are getting back to normal-ish, because scammy spammy phone calls are baaaack! Ugh. Just... ugh. I'm averaging four per day now.  I have to give props, though, to this latest incarnation of scam calling-- using a human! Yes, a real person to try and lure you into answering. I've been getting robo calls from a certain insurance agency. They've left robo voice messages. Then one day, I get a voicemail from a real human from said insurance agency with this message: "I'm calling for John and obviously this isn't John's number (insert nervous laugh). I'm calling from (annoying insurance…

Hey, 2020-- smell ya later! Are you over this year? *raises hand* Add this to the list of "WTH is With 2020"-- Sandstorm. Big. Sandstorm. A rather large plume of sand from the Sahara is headed for the Gulf Coast this week. A 5,000 mile trip. Sigh. There will be hazy skies, a drier atmosphere, and those with breathing issues (asthma and allergies) will feel discomfort. But, hey-- there's a positive. States from Florida to Texas will see beautiful sunsets with amplified colors of red and orange. So Insta-worthy! Just keep that sandy mess away from the CLE. We'll just…

The Pits

Written by
I don't think it's necessarily a sign of adulthood creeping in. I think it's one obsession being replaced with another.  I'm a shoe/handbag kind of gal. Still am to a degree, but with less frequency. One day I didn't even recognize myself as I said aloud "Do I really need this pair of shoes?" I slapped myself and made the purchase. But I have noticed over the years that I have a "thing" for kitchen gadgets. the picture above is one of my purchases that has come in handy.  I love cherries-- but not the pits. Kalamata olives-- but not…
