Premiere Social Distancing

Written by
There are houseboats. And then, there are houseboats.  Guess if you need to keep your social distancing, and you want some adventure, why not enjoy the Arkup Floating Houseboat! Talk about waterfront property... It's over 4,300 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space with a retractable deck and swim platform. Up to eight people can live comfortably here. The house pictured is in Miami. But this might look good on Lake Erie? Then move the houseboat to a different locale for winter? Just thinking out loud here.  Oh, and if you can spot me $5.5 million-- I'll let you live with…

Yup. Me and the hubs are classic overachievers. In all things. Been that way our entire lives. We're good at it, and our ROI is solid.  When the Japanese beetles decided that 2020 was going to be their year to be extra, well-- we can't have it. These little pests have ravaged our rose bushes and were setting their sights on our hanging flower baskets. Hell-to-the-no-way was this going to happen. So, the hubs decided "enough's enough". That meant he bought three (3) beetle death bags. Because one isn't enough. Our neighbors on both sides and across the street have…

What a CF!

Written by
Have you heard of clafoutis? It's a French dessert of fruit arranged in a buttered dish and covered with a thick, flan-like batter. Okay! I discovered this treat the other day and thought: "We need to try this."  I haven't attempted to create this apparently divine CF. Yet. But here's the recipe: Brigette's Blueberry Clafoutis INGREDIENTS 2 tablespoons salted butter, melted and cooled, plus more for the pan 6 oz blueberries ¼ cup granulated sugar ½ cup whole milk ½ cup heavy cream 3 eggs ½ cup (65g) all-purpose flour Pinch of salt Confectioners’ sugar, for serving INSTRUCTIONS Heat oven…

Magic Shoes

Written by
Some days (most days), you just need to channel your inner Dorothy ala Wizard of Oz.  There are some days you just want to click your heels and transport yourself wherever. Believe me, years ago-- when I bought this pair of red shoes-- I did click my heels inside the store and say: "There's no place like home." Yes, people stared at me. No, I didn't care. LOL When I wear these shoes, I always click the heels, especially if I need a little umph to get something done. For example: You have five errands to run... In an hour.…

In Place

I surrender. I'm a slob. And I blame my husband, who's a tad (a lot) messier than I. They say you become like your partner over time... I hope I don't pick up any more of his endearing (note sarcasm) traits. LOL Anywho, I've always used placemats on our dining room table. They change with the seasons, like my home decor does (yes, I'm that person.) I've noticed that since my slobbiness has risen a notch, my cool cloth placemats are... suffering. Collateral damage. Permanently food-stained. As a result, I've decided that plastic-vinyl-PVC-whatever placemats are the way to go. Because…

I've been in a soapy mood. Not that kind of soap (though we've all been washing our hands more frequently, right?) I'm in a soap opera-y kind of way. You know, like your grandma used to say: "Don't interrupt me during my stories." I've been watching Desperate Housewives on Hulu. All these interesting ladies (and men)-- some with mysterious pasts-- on Wisteria Lane in their picture-perfect homes, with their picture-perfect lives... not. So much dramz. It's a great escape from 2020. If you haven't watched ever, or want to re-watch-- do it!  Up next for me: Studio City on Amazon…

Chipmunks. So cute. Not!  I've got the squirrel love, but not the chipmunk love. While some say squirrels and chipmunks are both pests, chipmunks are destructive (Thanks for eating our weed shield! Thanks for tearing a hole in the Japanese beetle bag!) I shared previously that my husband built a little deck for the squirrels to lounge and eat peanuts on. He even built a dish to hold the nuts for the squirrels, and we have a plastic dish of water for them.  So, some scrub chipmunk wanted some of the squirrel peanut action and decided to help himself. Not…

The 4th of July weekend is *this* close! It's gonna be sunny, hot, and filled with yummy foods. I'm so excited, because for the first time in what seems like forever-- I'll get to spend the day with my parents and my in-laws. It's been a challenging few months, no? I enjoy cooking and feeding my peeps. One of the sides I'm making for our get-together is Seven Layer Salad. And it's so simple to make: 7 LAYER SALAD: Ingredients: 2 bags of salad (I use American blend) Carrots, chopped into bite-size pieces or shredded Red onion, chopped Raisins (as…

Cheesy Dreams

To me, mac n cheese should be its own food group. Fancy mac n cheese. Kraft mac n cheese. Kathy Vogel's Awesome Homemade Mac n Cheese-- it's all good. So when Stouffer's teased us with the idea of a Mac on Tap mac n cheese home dispenser?  Mind. Blown. Yoga pants EXPLODING! This needs to happen. A company spokesperson said the machine would have an internal heating system to keep the already-cooked mac n cheese warm enough to serve and eat. If you want to see what this beautiful creation looks like, click on the link: www.myrecipes.com/news/stouffers-mac-and-cheese-tap Thanks for doing The…

I'm all for conserving... and stuff. But there is one thing that annoys me about the suite we work in-- the motion sensor lights. I understand the value and concept. I loathe having to get up and walk to where the sensor is to then trigger the lights to come back on after they decide to sleep.  It's fine during the day. When there's sunlight. And there are other people here with their office doors open (but thanks to COVID, no co-workers)-- offices that have windows to allow natural light to come in. But it's completely aggravating when it's pre-morning…
